A: My practice proudly serves families throughout the Portsmouth, Manchester, and Concord area and surrounding New Hampshire Seacoast communities. This includes Portsmouth, Dover, Durham, Exeter, Hampton, Rye, Newmarket, Rochester, Somersworth, Stratham, Greenland, North Hampton, Seabrook, Hampton Falls, and more.

My care extends to the Portsmouth Navy Shipyard area, including Kittery, ME, York, and Eliot, plus many other communities throughout the Seacoast region and southern New Hampshire and Maine. Why Choose Homebirth

Q: Why do New Hampshire families choose homebirth?
A: Homebirth represents a return to what is natural, sacred, and historically ours. Families choose this path because they desire to labor freely, move as their bodies call them to move, and birth without institutional interventions that disrupt labor’s natural rhythms. Hospital care remains close when situations require medical attention.

At home, reverence surrounds you. You birth in your own space, surrounded by those you love, in complete comfort and privacy. Research consistently demonstrates that for low-risk pregnancies, planned homebirth with a skilled attendant achieves safety outcomes comparable to hospital birth, while significantly reducing intervention rates.

Many area hospitals impose policies restricting movement, requiring continuous monitoring, limiting food and drink, and pushing interventions according to institutional timelines rather than your body’s wisdom. Homebirth offers freedom from these constraints.

Legal & Regulatory Information

Q: Is homebirth legal in New Hampshire?
A: Yes, New Hampshire fully recognizes the legality of homebirth. You have the legal right to choose where and how you birth, and who—if anyone—attends. New Hampshire honors personal liberty and respects families’ birth choices. Licensed midwives in our state support a wide range of normal births, including VBAC, breech, and twins, depending on individual circumstances and the midwife’s training.

VBAC & VBAMC Support

Q: Do you support VBAC and VBAMC homebirths in the Manchester area?
A: Yes. Nancy Wainer, who coined the term “VBAC” in the 1980s, provided my predominant training. She grounded me in the belief that all uteruses deserve opportunity. As a VBA2C freebirther myself, the weight of reclaiming power after cesarean is deeply familiar to me.

Some area hospitals maintain policies limiting VBAC options or requiring continuous monitoring that restricts movement and autonomy. If you seek a different path—one where trust flows, where belief in your body holds strong, where your choices receive honor—then my practice welcomes you. Research supports that trial of labor after prior cesarean (TOLAC) represents a very reasonable and overall safe choice for most women. Your body belongs to you alone, and planning a homebirth VBAC or VBAMC remains your right. For VBAMC we go over the border to MA where they are legal or I can offer support for freebirthing.

VBAC and VBAMC mothers in Manchester and throughout New Hampshire receive support through:

Breech Birth Support

Q: Can I have a breech birth at home in New Hampshire?
A: Breech birth can happen safely at home under the right conditions, but is prohibited at home with midwives. I can explain what options you have locally and encourage you to connect. New Hampshire area hospitals and providers often schedule automatic cesareans for breech presentation. But breech does not mean broken. With proper preparation, assessment, and skilled support, many families safely choose vaginal breech birth.

Throughout my two decades of practice, breech births have been a privilege to attend, including extensive experience in clinics near my home in West Africa where breech births occurred frequently and received honor as normal variations of birth.

Not all breech babies qualify as ideal candidates for vaginal birth—proper assessment proves essential. All families considering breech birth should take the Breech Parent Course through Breech Without Borders and thoroughly research the evidence. This is your body. This is your baby. This is your choice.

Twin Homebirth Care

Q: Do you support twin homebirths in the Manchester and New Hampshire?
A: Twins do not automatically require hospital birth or cesarean section. My extensive experience with twin births includes work in West Africa where twin births occurred commonly and received respect as within the realm of normal birth, but sadly twin birth is not permissible at home with a midwife in New Hampshire. If you disagree with this, please write letters to the Midwifery board to express this and get involved in helping to change this legislation. Other options may exist for vaginal twin birth and I’m happy to discuss them.

Approximately 50% of vaginally born twins will have one or more twin born breech—and this is normal. With proper assessment, monitoring, and skilled care, many twin pregnancies receive safe support at home. Twin birth is currently not permissible at home with CPM midwifery care, but options do exist and I am happy to explain avenues that are available to accomplish your goal. My practice serves families in throughout the Seacoast area and beyond who seek to birth twins at home in a permissible area of the U.S. (MA or CT or PA currently) or desire consultation and support navigating their options. I also have a CNM colleague that can sometimes assist you to birth in a legal way. Twin birth requires specific preparation and thorough assessment, and walking that path with you brings me honor.

Freebirth Support

Q: What is freebirth, and do you offer freebirth support?
A: Freebirth—also called autonomous birth or unassisted birth—represents the choice to birth without a medical provider present. It reclaims birth as a family event, a spiritual passage, a deeply personal experience. My freebirth support reaches families virtually anywhere in the United States and beyond. Local residence is not required to receive freebirth consultation and support virtually.

This method of birth calls to some but not all. For those who feel this calling, my offerings include:

• Virtual consultations to help you prepare physically, mentally, and spiritually
• Evidence-based education on physiological birth
• Guidance on when to trust the process and when to seek help
• Emotional support throughout your pregnancy and postpartum
• Connection to resources and community

Hospital Transfer Planning

Q: What happens if I need to transfer to the hospital during my homebirth?
A: Before labor begins, every family develops a comprehensive transfer plan with me. Portsmouth and Seacoast area facilities include Mass General Hospital Dover, Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Elliott Hospital, Saint Josephs, Catholic Medical Center, and other excellent options nearby. When transfer becomes necessary, the process typically flows smoothly and without emergency. Most transfers seek comfort measures (like epidural) rather than addressing emergencies.

Should transfer become necessary, accompaniment and advocacy for your wishes come with me. Prenatal visits will have already covered your preferences and backup plans, so expectations remain clear. Navigation of any concerns or decisions during transfer includes my support, ensuring you stay fully informed and prepared for whatever unfolds.

Strong encouragement goes to reserving legal representation before birth if you plan to decline routine hospital procedures such as IV antibiotics, vitamin K for newborn, and the Newborn Screening. While rare, some providers do not respect these choices. Prudence suggests having a plan to protect your family. Meeting a supportive pediatrician, DO, or family doctor who could advocate for your healthy baby’s release should situations arise also receives my strong recommendation.

Q: What is your philosophy and approach to birth?
A: Deep respect for families and their choices forms the heart of my practice at Midwife at Your Doorstep. Every birthing parent holds the position of true decision-maker. Walking alongside you, offering support, knowledge, and wisdom while honoring your autonomy and the sacredness of your birth experience defines my role.

I have a deep trust in the innate wisdom of the body and its power to bring life into the world guides my work. Families who feel called to trust in the spiritual and physical power of birth and the divine wisdom guiding us through life’s unknowns find welcome in my practice.

My practice maintains a hands-off approach as much as possible, honoring the sanctity of the birth process. Intervention occurs only when necessary, and firm opposition stands against any regulation over a woman’s body or birth choices. Birth belongs not to the state, the institution, or anyone but the family. It is sacred. It is theirs.

Two stellar doula assistants accompany me to some births to offer love and support if you desire, and to keep me rested for you. The space and intimacy you need to unfold will be yours.

Training & Experience

Q: What is your training and experience?
A: My classical training in traditional midwifery spans over 20 years serving families. Nancy Wainer, who coined the term “VBAC” in the 1980s, provided my predominant training and grounded me in the belief that all uteruses deserve opportunity. Hands of Light and Heaven and Earth Home Midwifery Schools provided additional training with highly experienced “granny” midwives.

Massachusetts is where me my practice has been anchored for the last two decades.

over the last two decades, with the privilege of working in clinics near my other home in West Africa, where breech and twin births occurred frequently. This global perspective deepened trust in the body’s wisdom and the safety of physiological birth.

As a mother, unschooling shaped the education of my 7 children. My personal birth experiences include home, cesarean section, and VBA2C freebirth. Beyond midwifery work, licensed financial advising brings a holistic approach to supporting families in all aspects of their lives. I am not just as midwife, but also mother who has lived many of my own birth experiences that lend to my experience.

Postpartum Care

A: Yes. The postpartum period holds deep sacredness—a time for profound rest, nourishment, and bonding. Traditional postpartum care reaches families in New Hampshire includes:

• Home visits to check on mother and baby

• Emotional support during the postpartum transition

A: A no-cost initial consultation opens the door. During this call, we discuss your birth goals, your history, your questions, and explore whether we’re a good fit for each other.
